Radiation therapy company Varian Medical Systems has secured a contract with the National Institute of Oncology in Budapest to install its advanced linear accelerators.
Two VitalBeam systems will replace older machines from Siemens Healthineers at the center, while a low-energy Varian Unique device will replace an older cobalt unit. The new systems, ordered last month, are due to be delivered and installed later this year.
The institute also ordered a full suite of Aria oncology information management software from Varian to replace its existing Lantis system from Siemens.
More than 500 patients a day from across Hungary, Romania, and Serbia are treated at the National Institute of Oncology. Hungary has 13 radiotherapy centers with nearly 40 high-energy treatment units between them. The national goal is to reach 50 units for the country's 10 million inhabitants, according to the institute.
