Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems' TrueBeam system is now installed and in operation at Vasteras Hospital, west of Stockholm.
Until recently, physicists and doctors were treating 70 patients a day in two shifts during 14 hours. TrueBeam is designed for more advanced treatments in a shorter time.
Brain tumor patients previously were sent to Stockholm, while lung and esophagus cancer patients were sent to Uppsala for stereotactic radiotherapy treatments. TrueBeam allows patients to receive stereotactic treatments at Vasteras, which serves a population of about 250,000.
