Dear PACS Insider,
Luxembourg is in the process of developing a national electronic medical imaging record as part of its national e-health platform. Maintaining patient privacy and ensuring the security of all the data is of paramount concern. A presentation was made at the recent Med-e-Tel meeting, and staff writer Erik L. Ridley reports in detail on what is being done.
June is notable for being the month in which two imaging informatics-focused conferences occur. One is the Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (CARS) congress that's being held in Pisa, Italy 27-30 June along with EuroPACS. Associate editor Frances Rylands-Monk interviewed CARS president Dr. Davide Caramella, and provides a preview that might entice you, a member of the PACS Digital Community, to attend. Four years ago, I endeavored to write about the first implementations of PACS in China. Regrettably, my research encountered too many hurdles, but I've consistently believed that a PACS in China article needed to be written. So I was delighted that this subject was presented at the Medical Imaging Informatics and Teleradiology (MIIT) conference held last week in Toronto. Contributing writer Louise Gagnon attended the presentation by Minglin Li, general manager of Codonics in Shanghai.Do. Make a point of reading her article about China's digital leap forward in imaging informatics.
Vendor-neutral archives, particularly those that are cloud-based, are catching on worldwide. In Paris, a cloud-based PACS program is gathering momentum and Erik L. Ridley reports on what he learned at a session on this subject at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) annual meeting. Read his interesting coverage.
Teleradiology was first implemented in 1982 in Canada to support emergency care, but a lot has changed in the ensuing 30 years. French researchers from Lyon decided to clinically measure just how beneficial it is today in expediting emergency care, and they produced an award-winning study presented at ECR two months ago. Editor in Chief Philip Ward reports what he learned here.
