Image display firm Barco has introduced MedCal QAWeb Mobile, a quality assurance and calibration software tool to increase radiologist confidence in the diagnostic quality of remotely viewed images, at this week's RSNA 2011 meeting in Chicago.
The software package provides physicians with continuous access to DICOM-quality images on the Apple iPad and other tablets. For mobile applications developers, it also helps simplify the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance process, according to the company.
MedCal QAWeb Mobile features simplified, eight-step visual calibration and 20 dynamic test patterns to aid visual confidence testing. Settings can be modified to adjust viewing to ambient light conditions to help improve reading accuracy during remote site diagnostic interpretation.
Barco has submitted the QAWeb Mobile methods with the FDA as a Master File assisting healthcare developed and integrators with the 510(k) regulatory clearance process for new mobile views applications and related software.
A wireless link between the QAWeb Mobile and Barco's central server is a key to its performance, according to the vendor. The server downloads relevant calibration and QA data to the remote devices. It also enables HIPAA-compliant, centralized reporting and asset management.
