AI guru explains why he left X and joined Bluesky

An influential figure in radiology AI has elaborated on his decision to quit X (formerly Twitter) and sign up for Bluesky, the social networking service.

"I just left X," Jan Beger, global head of AI advocacy at GE HealthCare, told his 68,600 connections on LinkedIn. "Not left as in deactivated-my-account left, but left as in walked-out-the-door left. You know, like when you leave a party that started great, got a little weird, and ended with someone trying to sell you crypto."

"It was time," he continued. "The vibe? Off. The chaos? Unrelenting. The algorithm? Clearly caffeinated."

Beger, who is based in Leipzig, Germany, has now opened a social media account with Bluesky, and he reckons there's less pressure, less noise, and more joy. "It's like stepping into a place that hasn't yet forgotten what it means to just enjoy being here."

He acknowledges that Bluesky is "not some untouched paradise, but it's got a spark of something refreshing. Like moving to a new neighborhood where the air feels a little clearer, and people actually wave when they see you. Sure, some of the old neighbors came along too, but that's not a bad thing -- it's nice to see familiar faces in a place with a little more room to breathe. It's not quiet here -- far from it. The memes are still flying, the conversations still spiraling, but the energy feels a little brighter."

Beger concedes that this may only be a honeymoon period, however.

"Who knows where it'll go -- maybe it's just X in a sunnier jacket, maybe it's something better. But for now, I'm liking the change. Because sometimes you don't need a whole new world. Sometimes, you just need a little more room, a little more fresh air, and maybe -- just maybe -- a little more positivity," he wrote.
