One of Russia's best-known radiologists, Dr. Sergey Morozov, PhD, is to join the Belgian software developer Osimis as chief innovation officer, it was announced on 28 April.
Dr. Sergey Morozov, PhD. All photos courtesy of Osimis.Morozov, who was chief radiology officer for Moscow, was officially and publicly criticized for his discontent with the war in Ukraine. On 30 March, he resigned from his position as CEO of the Diagnostics and Telemedicine Center in Moscow.
"The past two months have been the most dramatic period in my lifetime -- both from personal and professional aspects," he told AuntMinnieEurope.com.
Having to leave his home, extended family, and friends has brought him into temporary turmoil, but he said he was able to cope with this because of the years he spent studying, working, and traveling internationally. His family's love and sincerity and the emphasis on discipline has helped him get through.
"Leaving my colleagues and team is a really big challenge," he continued. "However, my mission in Moscow was accomplished in 2021, as I see it. The team at the Diagnostics and Telemedicine Center is strong and resourceful. The newly appointed CEO, Dr. Yuri Vasiliev, is a professional and distinguished radiologist, a researcher, and an engineer."
Morozov said he greatly appreciates the many kind words and messages of support from friends across Europe, the U.S., and Australia, all of whom have expressed their compassion for Ukrainian, Russian, and Belarusian colleagues.
"Obviously I observe my 'deepening cancellation' from the official Russian media and official communications, but I consider it as yet another acknowledgment of my team's exceptional impact on Russian healthcare, professional society, and the social infrastructure," he commented. "I deeply thank my colleagues and teachers for the decades of collaboration and for what they do to continue developing healthcare in Russia."
Morozov said the transition to a new life in Belgium has been made possible by "24/7 support from family," along with his previous international experience and successful track record.
"The most important thing is a prior history of personal collaboration and positive attitudes towards a team and commitment to a community," he explained. "Quick and proactive moves, relentless planning, and bold execution are also necessary."
Management shake-up
Morozov says he is excited about further developing imaging informatics at the international level. In his new role, his priorities will be to leverage radiologists' practice by integrating augmented intelligence and to boost healthcare efficiency and quality.

Like Morozov, Ranschaert is a past president of the European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics (EuSoMII) and a member of the editorial advisory board of AuntMinnieEurope.com.
Additionally, engineer Peter Morel has become the new CEO of Osimis, taking over from Cédric Constant. Morel has more than 30 years of experience in software sales and marketing with Siemens Atea, Compaq, and Amdocs. He is a co-founder of Xenit Solutions, a Belgium-based IT company and system integrator.
Osimis was founded in 2015 around the open-source project Orthanc, led by Prof. Sébastien Jodogne, PhD, who is a computer scientist and assistant professor at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) in Belgium.
