The European Society of Radiology (ESR) is supporting an updated eHealth Stakeholder Group and has offered to provide the group with a radiology perspective on digital health and artificial intelligence (AI).

The eHealth Stakeholder Group was established in 2012 by the European Commission. It helps develop and implement digital health policies, the ESR said.

The society is urging the group to consider the following:

  • Crafting recommendations on how to include telemedicine in clinical practice
  • Addressing technical standards, ethical and privacy issues, governance, and infrastructure to support the development of the commission's European Health Data Space (EHDS) and progress on its European health record exchange format
  • Evaluating barriers that obstruct the safe use of AI in healthcare, particularly testing and validation

"The [ESR] welcomes the establishment of the revamped eHealth Stakeholder Group and is delighted to provide the group with a radiology perspective on digital health and artificial intelligence throughout its 2020-2022 mandate," the society said in a statement.
