Is there really anything to be afraid of when it comes to peer review? Not if it's implemented correctly, according to a presentation at this week's French national radiology congress, Journées Francophones de Radiologie, (JFR).
Many radiologists are leery of engaging in regular peer review because they generally fear being judged and punished, according to the talk by Dr. Nadya Pyatigorskaya, a neuroradiologist at Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris.
But peer review can be implemented in a way that's effective without being punitive. Find out how in an article in our Imaging Informatics Community.
JFR coverage
The story is just one of a number of articles we published this week from JFR 2019, which concluded on Monday in Paris. For example, in a Saturday morning session, researchers discussed how imaging techniques such as ultrasound are being used to detect nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in children.
And on Friday, JFR 2019 attendees heard about how a public health system in Normandy is setting up a regional teleradiology network that's designed to balance workloads and save time within the system. And another area in France, Brittany, is also setting up a similar network that's designed to enable the sharing of images between sites that are no more than 40 km away from each other -- further improving efficiency. In our Artificial Intelligence Community, you'll find another story from the congress -- this one focusing on an ambitious project in France to create a national ecosystem to foster the development of artificial intelligence algorithms.
The value of sports imaging
But the world of radiology outside of JFR 2019 kept turning. One of the big events on the horizon is the International Day of Radiology, to be held on 8 November with the theme of sports imaging.
In that vein, we're pleased to bring you several articles that profile what radiologists, such as Dr. Roar Pedersen of Norway, are doing in this vital area. Dr. Pedersen is a co-founder of the Norwegian society for musculoskeletal imaging, so his thoughts and opinions carry a lot of weight. And you'll probably recall our recent article on how the Australians organize sports imaging.
