Radiation therapy software developer RaySearch Laboratories said it will show a number of artificial intelligence (AI) features on its RayStation treatment planning software at the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) meeting this week in Milan.
The company said it has added deep-learning and machine-learning applications for automated treatment planning and automated organ segmentation as part of version 8B of RayStation. In a retrospective study that will be presented at the meeting, researchers from RaySearch and University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands found that the machine learning-based planning approach can generate dual-arc volumetric modulated arc therapy plans with adequate target coverage in 97% of cases, according to the firm.
In addition, the company will present results from its collaboration with Iridium Cancer Network in Antwerp, Belgium. The clinic has trained a deep-learning model for male pelvic segmentation, RaySearch said.
The firm will also present other new RayStation features, including photon Monte Carlo dose calculation, a new model for assessing treatment plans, and support for boron neutron capture therapy planning.
