GE secures U.K. AI contract

GE Healthcare has secured a contract with the Bradford Teaching Hospitals National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust in the U.K. to build an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered command center at the Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Twenty NHS staff members will monitor data streamed from the hospital to the command center via computer screens, tablets, and mobile devices; the algorithms will help them anticipate and resolve care delivery delays the company said. The new center will open in spring 2019.

The command center concept has been adopted at several North American hospitals, including Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Humber River hospital in Toronto, according to GE.
