Swedish deep-learning consortium wins grant

A Swedish deep-learning consortium of academic institutions and vendors has won a support grant worth 500,000 Swedish kroner (52,000 euros) from a Swedish government-funded innovation agency.

The consortium, which includes Royal Institute of Technology, the Karolinska Institute, image enhancement software developer ContextVision, and radiation therapy firm Elekta, are working on a project to evaluate whether deep learning can provide a more exact and more reliable analysis of images than visual inspection, according to ContextVision. The research will focus on a group of cancer patients who have had PET/CT images performed before and after treatment and during follow-up.

Clinical data will be used to develop deep-learning algorithms that can predict survival and cure, ContextVision said.
