Barco launches new dental displays

Image display firm Barco has introduced a line of displays for dental offices in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland in response to the latest German image quality guidelines for medical displays.

The new standard (DIN 6868-157) took effect in Germany on 1 May 2015 and defines room categories for monitors on the basis of their intended use, distinguishing between diagnostic and reviewing quality. These room categories (ranging from 1 to 6) set the maximum ambient light levels and minimum light output of medical displays, in relation to the work done in the room.

In response, Barco developed an entire range of medical displays that contains monitors for review, called Eonis, and diagnosis, called Nio. The displays come with Barco's MediCal QAWeb for automated calibration and quality assurance (QA). By making this service available to dentists, there is no need for manual interventions to keep monitors up to standard, the firm said. All Barco displays used in the dental office can be automatically calibrated to comply with the regulations as defined by DIN 6868-157.

Also, the new line has invisible cables, white housing, and modern design, and the displays can be disinfected with alcohol-based dental cleaning products. The diagnostic counterpart is available with a protective front cover.

The new range of displays is commercially available only in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
