There is plenty of scope for improvement in the working relationship between radiology and IT departments in hospitals, it seems.
A new survey by the Radiological Society of the Netherlands has found that less than half of the 53 respondents enjoy a healthy collaboration with their IT colleagues. Also, there is a strong desire for better implementation of service-level agreements involving radiology and IT departments, and for more training and support for IT-related issues. During a PACS transition project, data migration from the old system to the new one often is the toughest task, but Peter van Ooijen, PhD, from the radiology department at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands thinks the process is manageable, particularly with careful planning. Meanwhile, radiologists in Barcelona, Spain, have been testing clinical decision-support software based on appropriateness criteria from the American College of Radiology (ACR). Called ACR Select, the software could be adapted for use in the European market if plans underway by the European Society of Radiology come to fruition.
