The American Medical Association (AMA) has issued a Category III Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code for Ultromics' EchoGo Heart Failure.
The technology uses AI to detect heart failure with preserved ejection fraction from a single, routinely acquired echocardiographic video. It incorporates large datasets and AI algorithms to identify patterns and correlations that may go undetected by traditional diagnostic methods, Ultromics said. AI findings can help clinicians diagnose and monitor heart failure and track treatment responses.
The Category III CPT code 0923T was released on 1 July on the AMA's website and will become effective on 1 January 2025. It will replace the previous HCPCS outpatient code for EchoGo Heart Failure, C9786. EchoGo Heart Failure is also covered in the hospital inpatient setting, using the New Technology Add-on Payment (NTAP) code XXE2X19.
