Dear MRI Insider,

The segmentation of prostate substructures in multiparametric MRI is essential for clinical decision-making. But due to the location and size of the gland, an accurate manual delineation of tumors can be extremely difficult.

Researchers in Freiburg, Germany, have used artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify the process. They elaborated on their technique at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) annual congress, held earlier this month in London.

Another highlight at ISMRM 2022 was the inaugural lecture in memory of MRI pioneer Richard Ernst, PhD. It was fitting that Prof. Dr. Marion Smits, PhD, gave this talk, and her illuminating discussion of the future role of MRI radiomics provided much food for thought.

Have you ever considered using deuterium as a contrast agent for MRI? Apparently it's becoming more fashionable, particularly in research. You can read more about the modality's "forgotten" contrast agent in another report from ISMRM 2022.

A recurring theme over the past few years has been the benefits and pitfalls of low-field versus high-field magnets. Supporters of ultralow-field MRI showcased the latest advances during a special session at ISMRM 2022.

To ensure you get a balanced picture and hear both sides of the argument, we've brought you a video interview with Prof. Thoralf Niendorf, PhD, who remains an enthusiastic supporter of ultrahigh-field MRI. Near the end of the eight-minute video, he also has some fascinating thoughts on how to cope with stress and avoid burnout.

This letter features only a few of the many reports posted recently in the MRI Community. Please scroll through the full list below, and feel free to contact me if you have ideas for future coverage.
