Week in Review: MRI safety tips and tricks | Top 10 most feared errors | AI video with Erik Ranschaert

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

MRI safety continues to be a major concern. Thankfully reports of serious accidents are still rare, but it's inevitable that hard-pressed staff will cut corners to meet workload pressures, particularly when a technology has been in clinical use for over four decades. Also, new hazards are emerging all the time.

Prize-winning research presented at RSNA 2023 gives a valuable and timely update on this topic. Interestingly, the authors were responding to the congress organizers' call for an educational exhibit on MRI safety, underlining just how much the work was needed.

On-call sessions can be stressful times for radiology trainees, and pediatric neuroradiology cases are known to be among the most complex. This prompted a Spanish group to ask which diagnostic errors are feared most by senior trainees. The survey results are worth a close look.

Also this week we've brought you video interviews recorded at the Chicago meeting with two respected European sources who'll be very well known to many of you.

Prof. Erik Ranschaert, PhD, has been an active member of the AuntMinnieEurope.com editorial advisory board since our launch at ECR 2011. He reflected on the global differences in AI development and implementation. In the second video, our business columnist Steve Holloway spoke to us about emerging industry trends on display in the vast exhibition halls of McCormick Place.

When it comes to CT of pulmonary embolism, Prof. Martine Remy-Jardin, PhD, is a true expert. She presented new findings in this area at RSNA 2023, and you can find out more in our news report.
