A new national standard of care for anaphylaxis was released on 24 November by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC).

The Acute Anaphylaxis Clinical Care Standard was developed in consultation with consumers and healthcare professionals, and it aims to improve care and save lives. It emphasizes the need for prompt treatment and continuity of patient care between acute and general practice healthcare settings.

Each year, more than 11,500 Australians present to emergency departments with anaphylaxis. Australia has one of the highest documented rates of hospital anaphylaxis admissions in the developed world, according to the ACSQHC.
