Thieves stripped a mammography van of copper cable in the city of Perth in Western Australia, forcing the cancellation of breast screening services on a day devoted to cancer awareness, according to an article on the website WAtoday.
The thieves apparently struck some time before Daffodil Day on 23 August, a day dedicated to cancer awareness and prevention. The operators of the mobile van, BreastScreen WA, were forced to cancel their service as they were unable to power up the vehicle, according to the article.
Officials with BreastScreen WA estimated the value of the cable at $600 Australian (363 euros). BreastScreen WA plans to move the van to a new location, which could inconvenience women who have to travel farther to receive mammograms.
