Toshiba Medical Systems has initiated a scientific partnership with VU Medical Center (VUMC) in Amsterdam for research into dementia and neurodegenerative disorders.
Toshiba will provide VUMC with its Titan 3T MR system with pianissimo technology for the next five years to suport the research into dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The Toshiba equipment will be installed at the beginning of May, with research overseen by head of neurology Dr. Philip Scheltens, PhD, and head of neurordiology Dr. Frederik Barkhof, PhD.
Toshiba's technology will be tested and refined to improve the care and diagnosis of these patients, according to the company. The VUMC research will focus on better understanding the role of perfusion and vascular changes in dementia and to help gain new knowledge in the structural aspects of dementia, notably Alzheimer's disease, Toshiba said.
