Dutch radiopharmaceutical producer Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) has expressed its preference for Petten, Netherlands, as the site of its proposed research reactor.
NRG noted that Petten already is equipped with the full nuclear infrastructure that is necessary for operating Pallas and for the further processing of products from the reactor.
Relocating this infrastructure to the province of Zeeland, the other site under consideration, would require significant additional investment, according to NRG.
NRG, however, plans to continue discussions with both North Holland and Zeeland before the final decision on where to build Pallas.
A final choice of location is expected to come in the spring of 2010, as requited for the environmental impact assessment report for Pallas.
