For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Spanish Society of Breast Radiology (SERAM) is emphasizing the importance of breast imaging by highlighting the work of Dr. Pilar Manchón, breast radiologist and regional medical director of the Affidea Spain medical centers.
Manchón said breast cancer images help put the disease into perspective and that imaging "is the notary of clinicians and patients." She added that it helps patients understand the magnitude of their illness in their diagnosis and follow-up care. Manchón also said that the clinical role of the radiologist is reinforced as patients seek alternative options to surgery and imaging tracks changes in the tumor environment throughout the treatment process.
