Calypso wins Italian install

Electromagnetic localization technology developer Calypso Medical Technologies has installed its first tumor-tracking package in Italy, the company said.

Santa Chiara Hospital at the University of Pisa is the first medical center in Italy to offer Calypso's real-time tumor tracking for patients undergoing external-beam radiation therapy for prostate cancer, according to Calypso.

The system includes Calypso's GPS for the Body technology, which uses miniature implanted Beacon transponders to provide continuous information on the location of tumors during external-beam radiation therapy, Calypso said.
