Varian inks long-term U.K. pact

The London Clinic will become the first hospital in the U.K. to offer cancer treatments from Palo Alto, CA-based Varian Medical Systems' RapidArc and Trilogy technologies.

RapidArc is designed for highly conformal treatment fields to be delivered to cancer locations, and for clinicians to achieve 3D dose distribution with a single 360° rotation of the linear accelerator gantry.

Along with the Trilogy linear accelerator, the hospital also will acquire a Varian Clinac iX linear accelerator and a full suite of Eclipse treatment planning software.

Installation of the new systems is expected to be completed by 2009.
