The National Health Service (NHS) in Wales has welcomed a report from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) urging the health service to expand its support for medical 3D printing, according to an article by BBC News.
The RCS designated an independent commission, led by Dr. Adrian Sugar of Morriston Hospital in Swansea, to assess the potential of integrating various emerging technologies into healthcare. Sugar called for increased funding for specialist 3D printing hubs, emphasizing the need to speed up the adoption of individualized 3D-printed implants.
Investing in new treatments and pioneering digital technologies such as 3D printing would help people live longer, healthier lives, NHS Wales Chief Executive Andrew Goodall noted.
"It's imperative to our NHS's continuing success that it moves with the times to improve the health and prosperity of the people of Wales," he said.
