Prof. Jacques Frija died on 26 November 2025 at the age of 76, according to the French Society of Radiology (SFR).
He spent most of his career at Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris. He was appointed head of the radiology department in 1997, and he held this position until 2015.

“A renowned specialist in thoracic imaging, he authored numerous scientific publications and several educational works that remain authoritative,” the SFR stated. “A passionate advocate for radiology, he contributed to our discipline as President of the Thoracic Imaging Society. He also served as an asbestos expert for several organizations, including the AP-HP (Paris Public Hospitals) and the HAS (French National Authority for Health).”
Colleagues will remember Frija for “his profoundly engaging personality, characterized by kindness, availability, and a remarkable ability to share knowledge,” the SFR noted. His funeral will be held on 4 December at 1:30 pm CET at the Père Lachaise crematorium in Paris.
