A man has filed a complaint against staff at a diagnostic center in India, alleging that their failure to recognize his wife’s pacemaker and dialysis plug led to her death during an MRI.
According to a report from the New Indian Express, Nallaguchu Rama Tulasamma, 61, died while undergoing an MRI scan at Susmitha Diagnostic Centre in Eluru.
Tulasamma had been undergoing dialysis treatment at Ayush Hospital in Eluru and had a pacemaker fitted earlier, the Express noted.
According to Tulasamma’s husband, Koteswara Rao, her physician had ordered the MRI because she had been experiencing dizziness for several days prior.
Rao stated that he had been instructed by staff to hold her legs to prevent her from moving during the procedure. He noted that she seemed “fine” at first but began to show signs of discomfort. When he asked the technician for help, he said the only response he received was to tell him to advise her not to move, the article stated. It was determined that Tulasamma had passed away during the MRI scan.
Rao has lodged a police complaint against staff at the facility and the Eluru District Medical and Health Officer has visited the center.
The Express noted that facility staff have not commented on the incident.
