Image analysis software developer Mediaire has introduced mdspine, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based software application for analysis of the spinal cord on MRI.

Mdspine analyzes MR images of the spinal cord and then flags detected lesions for the radiologist, according to the vendor. It also quantifies lesion count and volume.

The software generates results in a structured report in less than five minutes after image acquisition, the company said.

Mediaire was founded in 2018 in Berlin by two MRI physicists, Andreas Lemke, PhD, and Jörg Döpfert, PhD. It aims to offer radiologists and neurologists a practical and economic solution for brain volumetry and characterization of lesions.

The duo have experience in programming AI-powered software solutions in different sectors, including automotive and public transport. Their collaboration dates back to 2009, when they worked with radiologist Prof. Henrik Michaely. Since founding HQ-imaging in 2015, Lemke has focused on MRI quality assurance as well as sequence and workflow optimization. He gained experience in authorization procedures of medical products while working at Bosch.
