Week in Review: Rockall highlights value-based radiology | Radiologists and AI | Value of FFR-CT

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Value-based radiology will be a majority priority in the coming years for Dr. Andrea Rockall, the professor and clinical chair in radiology at Imperial College London, who was recently selected as second vice president of the European Society of Radiology.

The position means that Rockall will be president of ECR at the July 2025 edition of the congress, giving her an important opportunity to highlight the issues of greatest concern to her. In addition to value-based radiology, she also plans to emphasize sustainable radiology, clinical audit, and patient communication.

Learn more about Rockall and her plans for the future in an article by Associate Editor Frances Rylands-Monk.

Radiologists and AI

How do radiologists really feel about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for medical applications? That's the question asked by Felix Beacher of market research firm Omdia in an article in our Artificial Intelligence Community.

Meanwhile, a recent study questions the value of software-based methods for calculating fractional flow reserve from CT scans (FFR-CT) as a method of analyzing coronary artery disease. Researchers from the U.K. found that FFR-CT software didn't offer any clinical advantage over a standard clinical algorithm.

Finally, don't finish your work week without reading a recent article that details the role of major risk factors like smoking, alcohol use, and high body mass index in contributing to cancer mortality worldwide.
