Siemens Medical Solutions said that it has committed to a $10 million investment over the next five years to achieve sustainable healthcare improvements in rural areas of China.
An agreement on the project was signed today by Siemens and the Shaanxi Bureau of Health, according to the Erlangen, Germany-based firm.
The company will outfit pilot hospitals with diagnostic equipment, beginning with a facility in Luochuan County in Yan'an, in the Shaanxi Province. The equipment will include ultrasound, x-ray, and CT systems. In addition, Siemens will equip six urban health centers with x-ray and ultrasound systems, and will maintain the technical infrastructure once it is in place.
The project, headed by China's Ministry of Health, is funded by Siemens' contribution to the Clinton Global Initiative, the company said.
