Siemens Medical Solutions of Erlangen, Germany, has received antitrust approval and completed its acquisition of health information software developer Gesellschaft für Systemforschung und Dienstleistungen im Gesundheitswesen (GSD) of Berlin.
The new Siemens Medical Solutions GSD division will remain a separate entity, operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Medical Solutions and as part of the Health Services division.
With more than 300 customers in 14 countries, Siemens expects the acquisition of GSD to strengthen its position in the European healthcare IT market. GSD generated revenue of approximately $30 million (U.S.) in 2006.
