The European healthcare information technology (HIT) platform market produced $276.5 million (U.S.) in revenues in 2006, and is expected to reach $526 million in 2013, according to market research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.
Increasing integration in the European healthcare industry is creating the need for a single point of contact for HIT systems, which in turn is driving the market for HIT platforms, according to the San Jose, CA-based firm.
Frost said that healthcare providers in Europe are in search of a single, unified platform for clinical and administrative systems. However, the high costs associated with complete overhauls of existing infrastructure are likely to restrain many hospitals from adopting HIT platforms, the company said.
